The Bridge Sports Complex Celebrates 3rd Anniversary

June 25th will mark the beginning of The Bridge’s fourth year of operations.

[Bridgeport, WV] June 26, 2024 – On June 25, 2021, The Bridge Sports Complex opened its doors to the public with a ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening celebration. Over the course of the following three years, The Bridge has grown into a regional attraction with over 1,000,000 people visiting the campus annually, with approximately 600,000 making their way into the Citynet Center.

The opening of The Bridge marked the completion of a project ten years in the making. Three years in, the facility has seen massive growth, exceeding original expectations. “I am looking forward to the continued expansion of The Bridge. Its facilities and programming are big assets to our community,” said Mayor Andy Lang.

Additional areas of growth over the past three years include

·       50+ tournaments and events hosted in2023-2024

·       The Greater Bridgeport area’s largest Jerry West league and most expansive volleyball programming

·       300 young athletes participating in club teams and about 50 adult league teams each season

·       Over 6,000 members from Harrison County and beyond

·       Over 1,000 Silver Sneakers and Renew Active memberships

Councilman Clayton Rice added, “The Bridge Sports Complex has become a regional presence in sports programming while continuing to focus on the local community.  I am proud to be a part of the Bridge Advisory Committee and feel the expansion discussions that are occurring will continue to build on the focus of serving the local community, in tandem with enhanced sports and cultural programming.  I cannot say enough about the diligent work and focus of the entire Bridge management team and staff.”

With three years under its belt, The Bridge now looks to the future. Plans for campus expansion are underway, beginning with an inclusive playground, and several new programs are set to begin this fall.

“City Leadership, both past and present, has created an unbelievable opportunity for citizens of Bridgeport and surrounding communities. This project will bring state-of-the-art facilities to our local community members while creating revenues for future growth by securing funds through sports tourism. Every event that takes place helps create a better environment for tournament goes as well as establishing world-class facilities for our community,” said Droo Callahan, General Manager of The Bridge.
