World’s Largest Swimming Lesson Returns to The Bridge This June

World’s Largest Swimming Lesson (WLSL) is a global organization that offers free swim lessons annually in June to reduce deaths by drowning worldwide.

[Bridgeport, WV] June 26, 2024 –The Bridge Sports Complex is excited to participate in the annual World’s Largest Swimming Lesson by offering free 30-minute swim lessons on Thursday, June 20th.

Suitable for beginning swimmers of all ages, WLSL’s free 30-minute lessons cover water safety and basic swimming skills. Participants will learn fundamentals designed to increase chances of survival in the event of a drowning situation.

A membership is not required to participate, but online registration is required due to limited capacity. Registration will open in June. Last year, 149 participants attended WLSL at the Citynet Center.

Drowning quick facts:

·       54% of American youth cannot perform basic water safety skills

·       Drowning is the leading cause of death among children 1-4 years old in the United States

·       Formal swim lessons can reduce the risk of drowning

·       On average, ten Americans die of drowning daily

Morning and evening classes will be available. In the event of lightning that results in a pool closure, the event will instead be a water safety lesson and craft at the Citynet Center. This event is completely free and is open to the public.
